Worcester, Mass. – Eighth-seeded West Boylston (10-10) pushed top-seeded Quabog to the limit, but the Cougars used nine three-pointers and a 47-33 edge on the glass to propel themselves to a 60-52 win over the Lions in the fourth Small School quarterfinal on Sunday evening.
Senior Joshua Toppin scored a game-high 20 points, including dropping in five three-pointers to go along with nine rebounds to lead the Quabog (16-4) attack.
West Boylston led by as many as eight in the third quarter but the Cougars mounted the comeback and had a ten point lead midway through the fourth quarter.
The Lions were extremely careful with the basketball committing just six turnovers, but struggled controlling Quabog’s offensive rebounding capabilities (21 offensive rebounds).
In addition to Toppin’s performance, Thomas Jankins finished with 18 points, ten rebounds, eight assists and no turnovers. Freshman Jake Wisniewski added ten points and nine boards for the Cougars, who will face Bartlett on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
