Winter Haven, Fla. – Husson University rallied from a 3-1 deficit scoring the game's final eight runs on their way to a 9-3 win over Clark University in non-league baseball action on Wednesday morning at Chain Of Lakes Park.
Score: Husson University 9, Clark University 3
Records: Husson University 2-2; Clark University 5-2
Location: Chain Of Lakes Park, Winter Haven, Fla.
How It Happened:
After a scoreless first three innings, the Eagles got a run on a Sam Huston RBI single off of Clark starter Cam Smith (Gorham, Maine) in the top of the fourth.
The Cougars answered back in the bottom of the frame when freshmen Collin Porter (Brookfield, Conn.) and Derek Lefebvre (Groton, Mass.) kicked off the inning with consecutive singles. Fellow freshman Jake Good (North Falmouth, Mass.) drove in one with a base hit and then two more runs scored later in the inning on a single by another freshman, David Rotando (Cold Spring, N.Y.).
Unfortunately, that would be all the offense the Scarlet and White could muster 24 hours after scoring a season-high 14 runs in a 13-inning win over New England College.
Clark did load the bases in the bottom of the eighth with three singles but the Eagles' Dustin Smith was able to get Good to fly out to end the threat.
Inside The Boxscore:
Ben Holmes went seven innings for the Eagles to earn the victory, as he scattered six hits and struck out two.
Lefebvre had three of Clark's nine hits and Rotando had two RBI.
Clark is off until Thursday when they face Wittenberg for a 12:30 p.m. start in Auburndale, Fla.
