Barksdale named to NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the Field Hockey All-Conference and Postseason Awards on Tuesday afternoon. Clark University junior, Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) was named to the NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference while senior Liz Grady (Worcester, Mass.) earned All-Sportsmanship recognition from the conference. Barksdale led the Cougars offensively this season with 19 points from seven goals and five assists. 

Helping lead the MIT Engineers to an impressive 2017 season highlighted by the programs first conference crown since 2012, Emily Penn has been named the Athlete of the Year. Leading a top three team nationally all season long, Babson's Lauren Drakeley was named the Defensive Player of the Year while Penn's teammate, Grace Moore was voted the Rookie of the Year after leading the conference in save percentage and total goals against.

Voted by the nine field hockey coaches, Babson head coach Julie Ryan was named the 2017 Field Hockey Coach of the Year. The Beavers fell in the conference finals but stood tall in the Regional Rankings at No. 1 for the entire regular season and then earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. 

The NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference Team consists of a first and second team of eleven selections which are voted on by the field hockey coaches from the conference. The 2017 honorees are listed below. 

Also being recognized are the nine field hockey student-athletes that were named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
