Cougars Claim City Title Behind MVP Arsenault
Worcester, Mass. – Behind the play of co-MVP Brian Arsenault (Portland, Maine), Clark captured the 2010 Worcester City Men’s Soccer Tournament on Sunday afternoon following their 3-1 win over Anna Maria at Becker College’s Alumni Field.
The Cougars opened the tournament on Friday by securing a 4-0 win over Becker as Arsenault handed out a pair of assists.
Then, in Clark’s 3-1 win over the Hawks, Arsenault netted the game winning-goal in the 56th minute.
For Arsenault, the selection as Tournament Co-MVP caps a fantastic start to his collegiate career. In Wednesday’s season-opening 7-1 win over Colby-Sawyer he recorded a goal and an assist.
With Arsenault and others –including Will Van Noppen (Providence, R.I.) and Baran Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) – leading the way, the Cougars are off to their first 3-0 start since 2005. That year Clark won its first three contests and 10 of its first 11 en route to a 14-4-2 campaign.
The Cougars return to the field on Wednesday when they visit Nichols College for a 4 p.m. start.
