Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Lasell College scored a goal in each half and played outstanding defense to remain undefeated, knocking off host Clark, 2-0, in non-league men's soccer action on Wednesday evening.
The Lasers move to 5-0-1 and now have won four straight, while the Cougars, who opened the season with four straight victories, have now dropped three in a row.
Clark dominated the game statistically, outshooting the Lasers 19-7 and holding an 11-3 edge in corner kicks.
With the early portion of the game being played in the Cougar offensive end, Noel Rix (Rye, N.H.) played a ball from the midfield to a streaking Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.), who split two Clark defenders and floated a ball over the outstretched arms of keeper Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) for an early, 1-0 lead at the 19:11 mark.
The Cougars had a few excellent scoring chances in the first half - mostly coming off well played in balls on corner kicks from Gianluca Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y.) – but could never connect for a score.
Lasell added an insurance goal in the opening moments of the second half when Evan Giaccione (Westerly, R.I.) set up Lawrence Fagan (Weymouth, Mass.) for his first goal of the season at the 46:42 mark.
The game was extremely physical with the officials handing out three yellow cards and whistling a combined 21 fouls.
Lasell, who has outscored its opponents by a combined score of 29-4, will visit league rival Rivier on Saturday, while the Cougars host Coast Guard Academy on Saturday as well.
