Clark Runs to 4-1 Victory Over Bears

THE BASICS:

Score: Clark University 4, Bridgewater State University 1

Location: Worcester, Mass. (Granger Field)

The Lead: A two-goal effort from junior Pirro Tomco (Worcester, Mass.) and an 11-save effort from senior goalkeeper Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) lifted the Cougars of Clark University to a 4-1 victory over the Bridgewater State University Bears on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The first half remained scoreless until there was five minutes remaining on the clock and Pirro put the ball in the net after receiving a pass from Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) for his first goal of the season and the 1-0 lead.

-The two teams entered the halftime break with Clark leading by just one.

-Clark came out hungry in the second half posting back to back goals in the eighth minute of play and the 11thminute of play. Pirro put the home team up 2-0 with his second goal of the game followed by an unassisted goal from sophomore Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, M.D.) who pushed through the defense and launched the ball passed Bear's goalkeeper, Nate Morgado (3-0).

-The Bears got on the board with 33 minutes to play as Filipe Gomes was sent to the line to take a penalty kick for the visitor's following a Cougar penalty in the box. Gomes was able to sneak the ball past Maguire to tighten the Cougar's lead to 3-1.

-Clark put the game back out of reach for the visitors posting a fourth goal with 24 minutes to play. SophomoreCharlie Lane (Southborough, Mass.) notched his first goal of the season off of a pass from Jonathan Guilherme (Oxford, Conn.) for the ultimate 4-1 victory.

-Maguire posted three major saves in the final 22 minutes of play to clinch the victory for the home team.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Despite the loss the Bears were able to outshoot the Cougars 18 (12 on goal) to 7 (four on goal).

-Maguire made 11 saves in the victory and improves to 3-2-2 this season.

-Bridgewater was granted seven corner kick to Clark's two.

The Cougars travel to Wheaton College on Saturday, September 23 for a 1:00 p.m. conference match-up. The Bears host Framingham State University on the same day at 5:00 p.m.
