Cougars Tripped Up By Unbeaten Pride

The Lead: The Cougars of Clark University and the Pride of Springfield College battled for 90 minutes on a cool fall afternoon at the Granger Soccer Complex. The Pride rode out two first half goals by juniors Brad Deckel (Lansdale, PA) and Christian Schneider (Douglas, Mass) to secure the victory, 2-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Pride struck first a quick five minutes into the game with junior Brad Deckel (Lansdale, PA) burying a strike off a rebounded shot past the outstretched arms of Clark goalkeeper Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.).

-Later in the first half, the Pride struck again when Christian Schneider (Douglas, Mass.) put one past Maguire after Clark had blocked a series of Pride shots.

-The Cougars' two best chances came midway through the second half when sophomore Jonathan Guilherme (Oxford, Conn.) blasted one over the crossbar; and sophomore Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa Park, NY) struck a shot from the top left of the box that was secured by Springfield goalkeeper Stewart Frank (Pittsford, N.Y.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-The Pride outshot the Cougars 27-5. Eleven of the Pride's twenty seven shots were on goal, while the Cougars put 3 on goal.

-The Pride held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-3.

-Maguire made nine saves for the Cougars and falls to 2-3-3 this season.

-Frank made three saves for the visitors to secure the shutout and improve to 8-0 this season.

-Clark will host non-league opponent, Western New England University this Wednesday, October 4th. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.

-Springfield will take their unbeaten record into a non-league matchup at Framingham State, this Tuesday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m.
