Bears Top Men's Swimming & Diving, 133.5-105.5

Bridgewater, Mass. – Julian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla.) won two events and Steven Castiglione (North Haven, Conn.) won two more but the Clark men's swimming and diving team dropped a 133.5-105.5 decision to host Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened:

Julian Ortega won both the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.94) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.52).

Castiglione took both of the diving events, claiming the 1-meter (2:33.20) and the three meter (208.73) – the latter over teammate Marco Moneti (Bloomington, Minn.), who was second (137.25).

Eddie McCluskey (Hope, Maine) finished the afternoon with a pair of individual second place efforts. He was the runner-up in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.67) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.07).

Dylan Schrama (Taunton, Mass.) also finished second in two events. He turned in a second-place showing in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.40) and the 200-yard IM (2:11.71).

Other second place finishers included Bill Holloman (Avon, Conn.) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.70), Sebastian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla.) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:14.59) and Julian Ortega in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.58).

Coach Speak:
"Some of our guys performed really well, but overall we just could not match up with their top swimmers who really did some damage where we knew they would," said Clark University head coach Paul E. Phillips. "I was proud of the way our guys battled, not just the first places but especially the second, third and fourth place points that were really hard fought. That's a good way to start the dual meet season."
