The Clark men's tennis team was just hoping to finish above .500 this year.
At 15-2, the Cougars are now eyeing the single-season program record for wins, which is 17.
"It's been a really good ride," junior co-captain Dan Hall of Sutton said, "a little unexpected, but it's a good feeling."
Clark has won six straight matches heading into the final week of the regular season. The NEWMAC tournament is this weekend.
Hall was a T&G Super Team honoree in 2009, when he and Sutton High partner Jeff Paadre won the Central Mass. doubles title. Hall was named Dual Valley Conference co-MVP and the DVC's Doubles Player of the Year.
Hall has continued to shine for Clark. He and junior Phillip Porter have won four of their last five matches at No. 3 doubles. Hall has also filled in at singles.
The Cougars won just five matches last year. Their two losses this season were to regionally ranked Division 2 Stonehill and nationally ranked NEWMAC rival MIT.
"We really recommitted to the way we practice," Hall said. "There's more focus on footwork and the fitness aspect of tennis so we can outlast opponents."
