Fort Myers, Fla. – Tatiana Chunis (Sutton, Mass.) capped her career-best afternoon with a game-winning base hit to give Clark a thrilling 6-5 win in eight innings over Alverno (Wisc.), but the Cougars dropped the second game of Wednesday's twinbill 4-0 to Geneva (Pa.) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Chunis went 2-for-4 with a career-high three RBI in the win over Alverno, while Shawna Amatucci (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had three hits and an RBI against the Inferno. Maureen Coakley (Worcester, Mass.) had two RBI as well, marking the third straight game in which she has had two or more RBI.
Game two marked Clark's first shutout of the season, as Geneva collect the win behind Julie DiLonardo, who scattered eight hits, struck out four in notching the complete game victory.
Geneva scored a single run in the first then tacked on three more in the fourth on a pair of RBI singles and a bases loaded walk.
The Cougars never got the timely hit however and Meuse, who started the game, lasted three innings, yielding six hits and four earned runs.
The Cougars will play their final two games of their trip on Thursday when they face Kenyon (Ohio) College and Finlandia (Mich.) University starting at 1:00 p.m.
