Boston, Mass. – After one of the best pitching performances in school history, Clark University softball standout Sami West (Gonic, N.H.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office.
West scoops up her first career weekly honor after spinning a season-opening no-hitter against Elms College last Saturday in a 3-0 win. The junior right hander struck out a career high 15 batters and faced 23 batters in all – just two over the minimum.
The award comes nearly three years to the day of the last weekly honor grabbed by a Clark softball student-athlete – Maya Allen was named league player of the week on March 10, 2014.
For West, meanwhile, she went out and validated the award only hours after receiving it, striking out 15 more and allowing just three hits in a 6-1 win over Alverno College on Monday afternoon.
So far this season in three appearances, West is 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA with 31 strikeouts and six hits allowed.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they face Wheelock and Pitt-Bradford beginning at 1:00 p.m.
