Softball Suffers Two Setbacks at Wellesley

THE BASICS

-Score Game Two: Wellesley College 2, Clark University 0

-Records: Clark (7-23, NEWMAC 3-15), Wellesley (9-22, NEWMAC 6-12)

-Location: Wellesley, Mass.

-The Lead: The Clark University softball team dropped two games in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with The Blue of Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Wellesley 1, Clark 0

-Wellesley scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Gen Brittingham (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) singled up the middle to get things started and a sacrifice bunt from Kendall Smith (Turlock, Calif.) moved her to third base. Autumn Brown (Marshfield, Mass.) earned an RBI when she singled to right field to score Brittingham for the 1-0 lead.

-Sophomore Christina Kopacz (North Grosvenordale, Conn.), junior Taylor Erickson (Natick, Mass.) and senior Anjelica Gonzalez (Merrimack, N.H.) all recorded hits in the setback for Clark.

-Senior Brenna Foley (Charlton, Mass.) went 4.2 inning for Clark while recording a strikeout and allowing just one earned run. She drops to 3-9 this season.

-Senior Julia Warner (Kenmore, Wash.) earned the win for Wellesley going seven innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out five batters. She improves to 6-10 this season.

Game Two: Wellesley 2, Clark 0

-The bottom of the fourth inning was the deciding factor of the day when Wellesley scored both runs. Warner was hit by a pitch to get on base and with two outs Brown homered over the left center field fence for two RBIs and the 2-0 lead.

-Kopacz, first years Jessics Urella (North Grafton, Mass.), Emily Vincent (North Grosvenordale, Conn.), and Francesca Cocca (Tewksbury, Mass.) along with senior Sami West (Gonic, N.H.) all posted hits in game two. Sophomore Sarah Woods (Littleton, Mass.) pitched four innings, struck out two batters and allowed just two hits in the setback.

-Senior Madeline Bianchi (Lakeville, Minn.) earned the win, pitching seven innings for The Blue and striking out three batters. She improves to 1-4 this season.

-Clark heads across town to Becker College on Tuesday, April 24th for two games starting at 3:00 p.m.

-Wellesley wraps up their regular season with a home doubleheader with Bridgewater State College on Wednesday, April 25th starting at 3:00 p.m.
