800 Freestyle Relay Gets Podium Finish On Day One

Worcester, Mass. – In their lone event of the night, the Clark University women's swimming and diving team got strong performances from a pair of 800-yard freestyle relay teams on the opening night of the 2017 New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships at WPI's Recreation and Sports Center on Thursday evening.

Their two finishes puts the Scarlet and White in eighth place with 36 points, while six-time defending champion MIT is off and running in first place with 70 points.

The Clark foursome of Amelia Muratori (Southbury, Conn.), Quinn Mitchell (West Hartford, Conn.), Niki Lew (Auburndale, Mass.) and Charlotte Gray (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished in eighth place with a time of 8:23.31.

Clark's second relay squad made up of Emma Bulman (Bridgewater, Mass.), Ariel Vaughan (West Haven, Conn.), Lara Prosterman (San Francisco, Calif.) and Jacie Carson (Eugene, Ore.) finished eighth in the "B" Final, registering a time of 9:05.48.

MIT repeated as conference champions in the event – their fifth straight year winning the event – as they posted a NCAA B-Cut standard of 7:34.77.

Action picks up again on Friday morning beginning with the 200-yard freestyle relay prelims.
