Cougars Open Spring With 6-3 Win Over Assumption

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Clark University swept the doubles match on its way to a 6-3 win over Assumption College in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon on the Assumption Tennis Courts.

The Cougars, who are playing in their first of three spring matches this season, improve to 5-8 overall, while the Greyhounds dip to 3-5.

Gaby Suriano and Sarah Sachs combined to knock off Erica Miciche and Megan Hall, 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to start Clark off on the right foot.

Then, Julia Bergeron and Emily Schweitzer at No. 2 doubles and Virginia Cooke and Holly DiMichelle at No. 3, picked up 8-2 wins to sweep the doubles matches for the Cougars.

Suriano and Sachs breezed to straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, in singles action. Suriano posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Miciche, while Sachs took down Paige Gilet, 6-4, 6-1.

Assumption's Grace Fox took the marathon match with Bergeron, 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 at No. 3 singles and then Marissa Charles and Hall registered a pair of 6-3, 6-4 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 over Maggie Swann and Olivia Levine.

Schweitzer and Alexandra Rahal battle at No. 6, with Schweitzer taking the first set 7-6 (7-4) in a tiebreaker, before Rahal answered with a 6-2 win in the second set. The third set eventually went to Schweitzer by a score of 12-10.

Clark will return to action on Friday with a 4:00 p.m. match at Holy Cross.
