Worcester, Mass. – The 36th season of Clark University volleyball will commence on Saturday, September 1 it has been announced by Director of Athletics and Recreation Sean Sullivan.
The Cougars will begin their sixth season under head coach Mickey Cahoon with a tri-match against the University of New England and Bridgewater State before visiting 2011 NCAA Final Four participant, Eastern Connecticut (Tuesday, September 4).
Clark opens the home portion of its schedule with four consecutive contests at the Kneller Center with Mount Ida (Thursday, September 6), MIT (Saturday, September 11), Mount Holyoke College (Saturday, September 15) and Smith College (Tuesday, September 18).
A visit to Salve Regina (Thursday, September 20) is rematch from their thrilling 3-2 battle a season ago and is followed by a trip to national power and league foe Springfield College (Tuesday, September 25).
Clark returns home for a challenging home stand that features Simmons College (Thursday, September 27) and a tri-match with Rhode Island College (Saturday, September 29) and Westfield State – an NCAA Tournament team a season ago.
A home contest against Connecticut College (Wednesday, October 3) precedes a trip to Coast Guard (Tuesday, October 2) and is followed by six straight road matches – including a meeting with a Southern Vermont team that finished 2011 at 30-2.
Clark finally returns home for a NEWMAC matchup with Wheaton (Tuesday, October 23) and a home tilt against Western Connecticut State (Thursday, October 25) before closing out the regular season with a road match at Babson College (Saturday, October 27).
NEWMAC Tournament play begins with first round action on Tuesday, October 30 and concludes with semifinals and finals action on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday November 4.
Despite losing six seniors from 2011, the cougars return a bevy of experienced players including rising junior Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) and rising sophomore Mel Conde (Union City, Calif.).
