Cougars Fall to NEWMAC Foe Babson; Defeat Roger Williams

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College women's volleyball team continued its home dominance with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium. The Beavers swept Clark University, 25-18, 25-20, 25-21.

Babson, which has won four straight matches, improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC. Clark (5-5, 1-1 NEWMAC) defeated Roger Williams (6-4) 3-0 in the day's other match.

First-year Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) hit .417 and led all players with 12 kills, and sophomore Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) added match highs of 35 assists and four blocks for the Green and White. Sophomore Kristen Carosotto (East Greenwich, R.I.) had eight kills, while juniors Shannon Roseen (Malden, Mass.) and Gizem Yilmaz (Istanbul, Turkey) finished with six apiece for in the win. Classmate Abby Beecher (Pittsford, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 13 digs for the Beavers.

Senior Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the Cougars with eight kills and 11 digs. First-year Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, Calif.) dished out 13 assists and junior Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) led all players with 19 digs in a losing effort.

Babson recorded 16 first-set kills and used a key four-point run that included kills by Puccio and Yilmaz to build an 18-13 advantage that it would not relinquish on its way to taking game one. The Beavers were even better in the second set, jumping out to a quick 9-1 lead and hitting .348 as a team en route to a two-game edge. 

The Green and White scored six of the first seven points in the third set and led by as many as 10 on four occasions, the last coming at 23-13 on a Cougars' service error. Clark got as close as four on the serve of Ramos, but Babson got a pair of kills from first-year Rachel Williams (Chicago, Ill.) to close out the match
