Springfield, Mass. – Led by Erika Roth (Saco, Maine) and Isabel Burgess (Cumberland Foreside, Maine), the Clark University women's cross country team posted a third-place finish at the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men meanwhile finished tenth out of 17 teams.
Roth, who continues to have an outstanding junior campaign, turned in her third top ten performance of the season with an eighth place showing over the 5K layout. She finished the course in 20:18.69 – her second best time in a 5K event this season.
Burgess, meanwhile, just missed a top ten finish with her 12th place result in a time of 20:27.91 – good for her fourth top 20 race this season.
Graduate student Heather Goodale (Middletown, Conn.) was the next Cougar to cross the finish line, wrapping up the course in 20:52.56, finishing in 23rd place.
She was followed by junior Zoe Greenberg (Arlington, Mass.) and her 25th place ending in a time of 20:54.91.
Rounding out the top five for Clark was freshman Marlena Springstubb (Oceanside, N.Y.), who had the best performance of her collegiate career with a 29th place finish in a time of 21:04.34.
On the men's side, it was Nathan Buck (Portland, Maine) who tops the list of Clark runners with his 16th place finish in a time of 27:52.00.
Joe Kennelly (New Windsor, N.Y.) crossed the finish line next for the Cougars in 37 th place with a time of 28:58.34.
Connor Joyce (Worcester, Mass.) wrapped up the top three men's runners with his 62 nd place showing in a time of 30:30.88.
Both Clark squads now have two weeks to prepare for the NEWMAC Championships which will be held on Sunday, October 30 at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
