WORCESTER, Mass. -- Clark University swimming and diving swept Cougar of the Week honors for the week of November 18 through November 24 as first-year Charlotte Bedford (Etna, N.H.) and first-year Bernave Twyman (Lafayette, Calif.) nabbed the accolade following outstanding performances this past week.
Bedford, a multi-sport student-athlete also competing on the rowing team, notched an individual first-place finish while racing on two winning relay teams to help the Cougars defeat UMass Dartmouth, 117-99. Bedford swam the first leg in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team notching a victory in the event with a time of 2:01.30. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Bedford again aided the team to a first-place finish, this time with the unit clocking in at 3:58.30 to take the event.
Bedford had her best performance of the afternoon in the 100-yard backstroke as the first-year etched her name into the program's top-ten times for the event, racing to a 1:03.64 finish to take the top spot on the podium and slot in ninth all-time for the Cougars.
On the men's side of the meet, Twyman continued his impressive start to his collegiate career, picking up three individual first-place finishes to boost the Cougars in a 117-106 victory against the Corsairs.
The management and environmental science major raced to the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle with respective times of 1:54.95 and 5:11.64. Twyman went onto pick up his third consecutive week with a victory in the butterfly, clocking in at 56.58 in the 100-yard event to round out his victories on the day.
Bedford, Twyman and the Cougars return to the pool on December 6 when they compete in the WPI Gompei Invitational.
