Trish Cronin was named Director of Athletics and Recreation at Clark University on April 8, 2014. She served as interim director for the eight months prior to her appointment while the University conducted a highly competitive national search to fill the position.

“Trish’s commitment to the Clark community, and her impressive interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with campus and outside groups stood out above the rest,” said Clark University President David Angel. “We have made much progress as a community under her guidance and I am confident that through her leadership, we will embrace this opportunity to take athletics at Clark University to heightened levels of excellence.”

Cronin came to Clark in 2010 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and quickly emerged as a leader in the department. She was elevated to Senior Women’s Administrator in 2011 and to Assistant Athletics Director in 2013. She has played key roles in several department-wide initiatives, including the expansion of the Bickman Fitness Center in the summer of 2013.

“I am thrilled that the University has entrusted me to lead this department,” said Cronin. “The opportunity to help shape the culture surrounding athletics and recreation at Clark is something that I am committed to.”

In her newly appointed role, Cronin will focus on enhancing athletic excellence, integrating the Athletics Department on campus and within LEEP, engaging faculty, cultivating relationships with alumni, and fundraising. She will continue to oversee an NCAA Division III program that has 17 varsity sports, more than 30 staff members and over 300 student-athletes.

Prior to her arrival at Clark, Cronin served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at Division II Dowling College in Oakdale, N.Y.  While at Dowling, Cronin coordinated the College’s Drug Testing Program, oversaw a staff of assistants and graduate assistants. She developed several sports medicine policies and procedures while providing healthcare for the College’s 16 intercollegiate programs.

In addition to her sports medicine responsibilities, Cronin served as the department administrative supervisor for the men’s and women’s tennis as well as the strength and conditioning program. She also served as the Champs Life Skills Coordinator on the Dowling campus, working as a liaison to other campus departments to coordinate programs and events.

Prior to being promoted to Head Athletic Trainer, Cronin served as an assistant for one year, supervising the graduate assistants.

Cronin spent 16 years at Salve Regina University in Newport R.I. where she served as Head Athletic Trainer in addition to serving as the head softball coach for six seasons (1992-97). During her time in the dugout, Cronin went an impressive 107-56 (.656 winning percentage) and led the Seahawks to a pair of 20-win seasons and three consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships.

She was the University’s Senior Women’s Administrator from 1995-97 and also was an adjunct professor, teaching athletic training, First aid & CPR classes, while volunteering for the American Red Cross.

Cronin is a certified athletic trainer and a member of both the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).

A 1989 graduate of Kentucky State University with a degree in biology, Cronin graduated magna cum laude from Dowling College with a master’s in education in 2009 and resides in Cranston, R.I.
