-The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team fought a tough battle with the Bison of Nichols College and came out on top with the 2-1 victory on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Clark opened scoring when junior Julia D'Antonio (Ramsey, N.J.) found space in the back left corner of the net on Clark's very first shot of the contest. The Cougars took the early 1-0 lead at the 23:27 mark.
-Nichols tied the game at 43:30 in the second half when sophomore Lizz McKinnon (Quincy, Mass.) knocked in a rebound off a shot from junior Erin Kelley (Dighton, Mass.) into the net.
-With less than six minutes remaining in regulation, Clark freshman Kimberlie Asseng (Deerfield, Mass.) recorded the game winning goal when she collected a ball that ricocheted off D'Antonio and put it past junior goalkeeper, Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn.) for the 2-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Senior Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) made an outstanding seven saves in net and improves to 2-0 for the Cougars.
-Nichols outshot Clark 17-9. The home team was awarded 10 penalty corners to Clark's four.
-Misbach finished with three saves for the Bison and falls to 1-1 on the season
-Clark hosts Western New England University on Saturday, September 8th at 1:30 p.m.
-Nichols travels to Salve Regina on Tuesday, September 11th for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
