-The Lead: The Clark University men's basketball team suffered a setback to the Beavers of Babson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. Senior Brandon Johnson (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) led all scorers with 16 points to lead the visitors to victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Babson took a six-point lead with 12:39 on the clock after junior Jack Coolahan (Newton, Penn) made a drive to the basket and a three-pointer in a 3-0 rally before the Cougars called their first timeout of the game (16-10). The visitors continued their streak and managed to pull ahead by 11 with 10:33 on the clock after Graham Dolan (Williamsville, N.Y.) hit a jumper, Matt Pattyson (Doylestown, Penn.) hit one from behind the arc, and first year Colin Bradense (Billerica, Mass.) capped it off with a layup for the 23-12 advantage. The Beavers pulled ahead by 33 before the break (57-24).
-Coolahan led Babson with 10 points in the first 20 minutes and was 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Sophomore Biko Gayman (Fort Pierce, Fla.) led Clark with 10 points to lead Clark in the first.
-Johnson added seven points from a layup, three-pointer, and a pair of free-throws to extend the Beaver's lead to 35 five minutes into the second half (70-35). Sophomore Anthony Grzembski (Webster, Mass.) put up 12 points in the second for Clark and his classmate Charles Pappas (Westminster, Mass.) put up 11 points off the bench going 3-for-3 from three-point range. The Beavers edged Clark in scoring 45-41 in the second to take away the 102-65 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Johnson led all scorers with 16 points to lead Babson to victory. Coolahan added 12 points and sophomore Andrew Jaworski (Tolland, Conn.) added 10 points to round out double-digit scoring for the visitors.
-Gayman led Clark with 12 points, Grzembski finished with 14 points and Pappas added 11 for Clark.
-Babson shot 62.1% from the field while Clark shot 37.1%.
-Clark shot 87.5% from the free-throw line (7-for-8) and the Beavers shot 75% (15-for-20).
-The Beavers outrebounded the Cougars 39-28.
-Clark hosts NEWMAC opponent, Emerson College, on Wednesday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m.
-Babson is back in Worcester on Wednesday, February 6th when they travel to WPI for a NEWMAC matchup at 8:00 p.m.
