WORCESTER, MA: Today, seven seniors were honored by their family, teammates, coaching staff, and the Clark community. With a great overall team performance, the Clark Cougars picked up their 6th win of the season over the Emerson College Lions. The final score of 4-0 moves Clark to 1-0 on the year in NEWMAC play and 6-1 overall.
RECAP: The match started with an early attack by Clark. A shot by senior Charlie Lane (Southborough, MA) in the 4th minute was saved and created a corner that ultimately put good pressure on Emerson's defense. Emerson had a long possession in the 10th minute that was defended well by Clark. The Cougars' counter attack created what looked like a good opportunity for senior Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, MD) but it came to no avail. As play went on, the first shot on goal by Emerson was saved by Melvin Vincent (Rochester, MA) in the 14th minute. During the 17th minute, Lane played a great pass right onto the foot of senior Evan Jurkowski (Ludlow, MA) who ripped it by the goalie into the middle of the net, putting the Cougars up 1-0.
In response, Emerson tried to equalize the match. The Lions put a ball into the box but it was played well by Clark senior Jesse Aronson (Somerville, MA) to get it back in Clark's possession. Just a minute later, goalkeeper Melvin Vincent assisted to Munroe on a long pass that Munroe played perfectly off of his toe and over the Emerson goalie as his defender was attached to his hip. The beautiful play produced a 2-0 lead, creating separation on the scoreboard that Clark was looking for in the 21st minute.
Minutes later, a beautiful pass by Ezekiel Palmer (Vergennes, VT) led Patrick Clark (Southborough, MA) to a great chance on goal and the Emerson keeper made a tough save. Shortly after, a corner by Alex Maiorano (Shrewsbury, MA) created a strong shot on goal by Gregory Amador (Westborough, MA) but another Clark shot was saved by Emerson's David Kemp. After Clark put another late shot on goal in the 44th minute, the half ended with Clark still having the two goal advantage.
An awesome play to come out of the half by Clark grabbed them a 3-0 lead. Lane scored in the 47th minute, assisted by his teammates Munroe and Maiorano. That prompt goal solidified the ending that ultimately came. To extend the lead to 4-0, Cooper Richards (Wellesley, MA) crossed it into the box and Alex Nicholson (Barrington, RI) finished the pass with a strike into the bottom right corner of the net.
Clark's Vincent stopped all four shots that were put on goal. On the other side, Emerson's Kemp saved 15 of the 19 shots on goal had by Clark.
