WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University senior midfielder Charlie Lane (Southboro, Mass.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Lane, a psychology major, led the Cougars toward a 2-0 week that saw the team outscore their opponents by an 8-1 margin to extend their current winning streak to five straight games. On September 18th against Colby-Sawyer, Lane got the scoring started just 52 seconds into the action when he buried a penalty kick en route to a 4-1 victory. Just three days later, the senior continued to set the tone offensively assisting on the game's first goal before later finding the back of the net himself to aid a 4-0 win over Emerson in the NEWMAC conference opener.
So far this season, Lane has registered four goals and three assists in seven games started for the Cougars. Those numbers are currently enough for third and fourth respectively amongst NEWMAC statistical leaders - trailing teammate and senior forward Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) who sits atop the conference in both categories with six goals and four assists.
Clark University men's soccer returns to the pitch on September 25th when it travels to Keene State for a 6:30 pm tilt to open up a three-game road trip. The Cougars return to Granger Athletic Complex on October 2nd at 7:00 pm against Western New England.
