WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University senior captain Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) earned his first individual accolade of the 2019-20 season as the midfielder was named Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Sheridan, a management major, turned in a stellar performance in the lone game of the week as the Cougars moved their winning streak to five straight games with a 4-3 double-overtime victory on the road at MIT.
The senior was pivotal to the win which kept the Cougars in control of the NEWMAC standings. With a 2-0 deficit in the 76th minute, Sheridan dished out an assist to Brian Brennan (Stoneham, Mass.) to get things going for the Cougars. Later in the 85th minute, Sheridan came through again, this time scoring a marker of his own to level the score at 3-3.
After a scoreless opening overtime session, Sheridan provided the game-winner in the 106th minute, firing a header into the net off a feed from Brennan to edge the Engineers by the 4-3 final.
Sheridan has come on strong as of late as the senior has scored three goals and added an assist in his last five games played. On the season, Sheridan is tied for his career-high with four markers while also dishing out four assists in 14 games played.
Clark University is headed into its final stretch of games before the postseason, with the Cougars in control of their own fate. The team will travel to Babson College on October 26 for a 2:00 pm NEWMAC showdown.
