MSOC: Cougars Place Four on NEWMAC All-Conference Teams

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Following a 12-7 season and a valiant postseason run, Clark University men's soccer received four selections to NEWMAC All-Conference teams as officially announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Brian Brennan (Stoneham, Mass.) and senior captain Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) represent the Cougars on the NEWMAC First Team while senior co-captains Charlie Lane (Southborough, Mass.) and Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa Park N.Y.) each nabbed Second Team recognition.

Brennan becomes the second sophomore in the Matt O'Toole head coaching tenure to earn an All-Conference nod and does so emphatically after leading the NEWMAC with nine goals scored. The forward enjoyed a breakout season on the pitch in 2019, recording seven markers down the final stretch of the season, culminating with a double-overtime game-winner in the NEWMAC quarterfinal round over MIT.

Munroe also bolsters the Cougars' First Team nominees as the senior captain saw action in 18 contests throughout the fall to finish his career strong. The forward turned in a dynamic effort this past season, leading the conference with eight assists while finishing in a three-way tie for second with eight goals scored. With his most recent selection, Munroe finishes his collegiate career with his third consecutive NEWMAC First Team accolade.

Lane earns the first postseason accolade of his career as the midfielder posted four goals and six assists to find a place on the NEWMAC Second Team. With those six helpers, the senior finished second on the team in the category while setting a new individual single-season high in the process. Earlier in the season, Lane was tabbed the NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week following a two goal, one assist week from September 18 to September 21.

Sheridan rounds out the men's soccer recipients, collecting the NEWMAC Second Team honor for the second straight season. The midfielder was a key cog in the offense as Sheridan notched four goals while distributing five assists. On October 29, Sheridan scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 106th minute, to fuel a gutsy double-overtime comeback over MIT. With the most recent accolade, Sheridan finishes his career with five NEWMAC postseason awards in total.

The four All-Conference selections mark the most in a single-season for the program since placing three student-athletes back in 2007.

The NEWMAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team consists of a first team and second team of 11 individuals that are voted on by the eleven men's soccer coaches from the conference.
