MXC: Cougars Finish Eighth at NEWMAC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. — Sophomore Ryan Ewanyk (East Northport, N.Y.) turned in a 60th place finish to pace the Clark University men's cross country team at the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Sunday at Franklin Park as the Cougars put forth an eighth-place finish.

Ewanyk built upon a 86th place finish at last year's championships, as the sophomore triggered the timer with a mark of 29:17 on a challenging 8K course. Junior Isaiah Chamberlain (Castleton, Vt.) also came ahead of his standing from a season ago, finishing in 73rd place with a time of 30:16 on Sunday,

Sophomore Cameron Keenan (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior captain Bobby Sharma (Kobe, Hyogo) each saw individual improvements as well, with the duo finishing in 74th and 76th place respectively with marks of 30:37 and 30:46. Junior co-captain Ben Ryan (Amherst, Mass.) rounded out the performances for the Cougars with his time of 32:10 giving him an 83rd placement.

In the field, 12th-ranked MIT men's cross country team registered eight of the 10 fastest individual times on the way to claiming its 22nd consecutive title at the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday.

The Engineers recorded a 27-point victory over WPI, which placed four harriers in the top 12. Coast Guard came in third with 99 points, while Springfield College (122) and Babson College (156) rounded out the top five.

Andrew Mah, who was the runner up at least year's conference meet, edged teammate Samjay Raman by eight seconds with a time of 25:22 on the 8k course to earn NEWMAC Runner of the Year honors. As the top first-year finisher, Raman was selected as the conference rookie of the year.

David Reynolds of WPI came in third with a time of 25:39, Finn Jacobsen-Schulte of MIT was fourth in a time of 25:48, and fellow Engineer Josh Derrick placed fifth with a time of 25:51.
