How it Happened

Junior Hannah Favaloro (Blackstone, Mass.) corralled a new career-high of 24 rebounds while tallying a game-high 18 points to pick up her 12th career double-double and second of the year. The outing also marked the third time this season with ten or more points for the forward.

Sophomore Emily Sifferlen (North Andover, Mass.) tallied her third straight game of ten or more points with a 16-point outing which included a season-high 10-of-17 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Hallie Johnson (Princeton, Mass.) contributed ten points while first-year Eliza Quinones (Bangor, Maine) added eight as well in a career-high nine minutes played.

Favaloro started in a groove for the Cougars as the junior provided seven points and six rebounds during the first quarter. The team played from behind for much of the frame, pulling ahead on two separate occasions with Quinones marking the second as her two free throws provided a brief 10-9 lead with 2:30 left in the quarter.

Quinones and Favaloro each chipped in a lay-up before the end of the quarter, but the Bulldogs held onto a 19-15 lead into the second frame with Makayla Rudder and Sitaara Muhammad combining for 11 to start the game for the host.

Clark opened the second quarter with 5-3 lead to cut into the deficit. Dean was able to re-extend, however, as a triple from Sadie Homer sparked six unanswered points by the host. The Bulldogs capped the quarter with a 9-4 scoring drive to take a 36-28 lead into the halftime break.

With the deficit hovering around ten points for most of the third quarter, the Cougars finished the ten-minute period with momentum as a Favaloro's lay-up at the buzzer sliced the gap, 59-51.

Dean College regained control to start the final quarter as a 4-0 run pushed the lead to 12 points and forced the Cougars to call a timeout with 8:32 to go. The Bulldogs tacked on two more right out of the break, but consecutive baskets from Johnson and Sifferlen shrunk the gap down to ten at 65-55.

The Bulldogs pulled away for good shortly after, opening up their largest lead of the game at 72-55 following a layup from Rudder. Clark University controlled an 11-3 scoring run down the stretch, but the cushion was just enough for the Bulldogs to escape with the 75-66 final score.

Clark University shot 22-of-38 from the free-throw line, marking the most attempts of the season thus far. The Cougars were narrowly edged on the glass by a 56-54 clip going to Dean with the teams locked in points off turnovers at 23 apiece.
