WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Ginny Benbow (Durham, Conn.) earned the first conference honor of her collegiate career as the guard was named NEWMAC Women's Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Benbow, a psychology and management major, picks up the NEWMAC accolade following a career-performance against Anna Maria on November 26 which saw her register a career-high 24 points on 9-of-13 (69.2%) shooting from the floor in a season-high 28 minutes played.
The sophomore erupted in the second half of the 71-64 non-conference victory, scoring 14 of her game-high 24 points over that span while drilling 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to boost the Cougars. Additionally, she finished 3-of-7 from the free-throw stripe while recording two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Last Tuesday's outing marked the most recent in a string of solid performances by Benbow to start the season, already setting a new career-high total in points (80) while scoring ten or more in a game on four separate occasions. The sophomore has started in all seven games to start the 2019-20 season for the Cougars.
Benbow's 9-of-25 (36%) shooting from three-point range and 11.4 points per rank second and fourth on the team respectively while seeing action in 25.1 minutes per contest.
The Cougars return to home court on Thursday, December 5 when they welcome the Judges of Brandeis University for a 7:00 pm non-conference matchup.
