Boston, Mass. – Following an excellent start to her collegiate career, Clark University freshman netminder Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer defensive player of the week.
Christy, who was made her first two collegiate appearances in net last week, was strong in between the pipes for the Cougars, posting a 2-0 record with a 0.97 goals against average as the Scarlet and White won their first two games of the season.
After only needing to make one stop in Clark's 2-1 overtime win over Nichols last Thursday to open the season, Christy turned aside 11 shots in the 2-1 regulation win over Framingham State on Saturday.
Through two contests so far this season, Christy is second in the league in total saves (12) and sixth in save percentage (.857).
Off to their best start since 2003, Clark returns to action on Tuesday when they host Newbury College in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference affair.
