WORCESTER, Ma.- After a disappointing end to a strong start, Clark Women's Soccer ended their 2018 season with a record of 9-7-1 and a conference record of 4-6. Although four wins was enough finish in 6th place in the conference, it also resulted in a three-way tie with Babson and Wheaton. Clark was ultimately eliminated from post-season play on a tiebreaker. Clark returns this fall eager to prove that they belong at the top of the table in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
With 21 returning players, and 7 newcomers who should add to the team's depth, Coach Brienne Smith is excited to see what the team will bring this season. She stated, "With the bulk of the team returning and the addition of some impactful new players, we are excited to see where we can take the program this fall."
Seven strong seniors are among the 21 returners, and they are ready to end their collegiate soccer careers on a high note. The senior class includes goalkeepers Alison Carroll (Douglas, Mass) and Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn), defender Katie Barber (Hampton, Conn), midfielders Sara Conroy (Clifton Park, NY) and Maya Mashkuri (Montpelier, Vt), and forwards Bailey Glenn (Middleboro, Mass) and Megan Marocco (Swampscott, Mass). All seven seniors have contributed to the programs past success and look forward to what they hope with be their most successful season to date.
Megan Marocco will wear the captain band for Clark this fall, after being unanimously elected to the job by her teammates. "Meg is a great example of hard work, dedication and "team first" mentality and has already shown excellent leadership this preseason," added Smith
Adding to this fall's talented roster are seven new first year's eager to contribute to the team's success. The incoming class includes, goalkeeper Emery Letendre (Middletown Springs, VT), defenders Jamie Stern (Highland Park, IL) and Eliza Quinones (Bangor, ME), midfielders Emma Tziachris (Cumberland, RI) and Olivia Blaney (South Hadley, MA), and forwards Lila McNamee (Cheshire, CT) and Siobhan Loundsbury (Southbury, CT).
The season kicks off with two home games on Granger Field on August 30th and September 1st, 7pm and 12pm consecutively. The Cougars open conference play on the road at WPI on September 21st.
