How it Happened

Clark University manufactured opportunities throughout the match as the Cougars put the first shot of regulation on target as first-year Lila McNamee (Cheshire, Conn.) forced Bridget O'Connor to make her initial save just 1:21 into action.

At the 20-minute mark of the first half, the Cougars started knocking on the door when Taylor Barbieri (Glastonbury, Conn.) fired off a quality look into the grasp of O'Connor. Clark managed two more shots and a corner kick before the end of the half with the buzzer sounding on a scoreless start to the contest.

Clark was able to roll its momentum into the start of the second half as McNamee again got things going with a shot, this time sailing the attempt wide of the post.

The Pride, sensing the offensive pressure created from the Cougars, jumped ahead in the 60th minute following a corner-kick as Sydney Wine found the ball inside the box before slotting in her shot just inside the right post for the 1-0 lead.

Clark University continued to push for the equalizer throughout the remainder of the contest as the Cougars tallied five shots and a pair of corner kicks following the goal, but Springfield was able to hold onto the slim margin.

The visiting Cougars finished with 12 shots to Springfield's 13 with the teams taking four corner kicks apiece. McNamee finished with a team-high three shots while Danielle Black (Middleboro, Mass.) and Jamie Joseph (Cazenovia, N.Y.) were each responsible for two attempts.
