WORCESTER, Mass. -- Despite close matches at #1 doubles and #1 singles, the Clark University women's tennis team were defeated, 9-0, by an always powerful Roger Williams team on Friday night at the Corash Tennis Courts.

How it Happened:
At #1 doubles, Clark senior captain Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) and first-year Eleanor Hodgkin (Manchester, ME.) lost 5-8 to RWU's Alessia Cahoon and Emma Place. The Clark pairing hung in for a while before finally being broken on serve by the opposistion. The Hawks rounded out doubles with two more points, taking 8-1 scores in both #2 and #3 doubles. At #2 junior captain Jillian Skulsky (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, VT.) were outmatched by RWU's Taryn Roche and Jess Magliato while at #3 senior captain Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) and first-year Megan Balani (Braintree, Mass.) lost to RWU's Riley Spillane and Tanya Gianitsos.
In the singles portion, Hodgkin took a tough loss in the opening set to RWU's Cahoon, then nearly came back to win the second before losing 6-2, 7-6 with a 7-6 tiebreak score. Though she ultimately came up shy, Hodgkin's grit and determination helped her fight back in the second set. At #2 singles, Skulsky lost to RWU's Roche 6-1, 6-1. The Hawks increased their advantage, despite having already clinched the match, at #3 singles as Emma Place earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory. At #4 singles, Dunnell won games in both sets against RWU's Magliato, falling 6-1, 6-1. Clark was shut out at both #5 and #6 singles as junior Zahara Shidad (Lewiston, ME.) lost to RWU's Morgan Crimmins before the Hawks rounded out the victory when Spillane earned a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against first-year Nardin Sayoufi (Shelton, Conn.)
The Cougars look to rebound next Tuesday at home as Regis College travels to Worcester for a 4:00 pm matchup.
