MIT Outlasts Cougars, 8-1

Worcester, Mass. – Behind a powerful display during doubles and singles action, visiting MIT defeated host Clark 8-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

The Engineers swept through doubles play winning all three matches in relatively easy fashion including an 8-2 win over Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) at No. 1.

Lauren Quisenberry also handed Suriano her first-ever loss in singles action with a straight set win at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win.

Clark's lone victory came at No. 3 singles with Maggie Swann (Portland, Maine) taking a 7-6 (14-12), 6-1 win over Melissa Diskin.

The Cougars had at chance at No. 5 singles as well with Olivia Levine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) taking the first set 6-1 before dropping the second set 6-3. The third set was a marathon with MIT's Hillary Jenny eventually outlasting Levine 13-11.

At 3-3 overall Clark returns to the court on Tuesday when they host Springfield College, while the Engineers visit Babson on Tuesday as well.
