Worcester, Mass. – Powered by sweeping the doubles matches, visiting Mount Holyoke won its second straight conference matchup, posting an 8-1 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Thursday afternoon.
The Lyons improve to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Cougars remain in search of their first win of the season, sitting at 0-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
In doubles action, the combination of Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.Y.) and AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.), knocked off Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.), 8-3 at No. 1.
That was followed by Mount Holyoke's Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn.) topping Virginia Cooke (Shelton, Conn.) and Julia Bergeron (Lewiston, Maine), 8-5.
Kelsey Brower (Tuckerton, N.J.) and Heather Richardson (Holden, Mass.) wrapped up doubles play with an 8-1 win over Rose Burberry-Martin (Hopedale, Mass.) and Holly DiMichele (Redlands, Calif.).
On the singles side, Suriano took down Han, 6-2, 6-1 for the Cougars only point of the match.
Sarah Moore had a relatively easy time with Kristen Cullity (Carver, Mass.) at No. 6, collecting a 6-0, 6-1 win while Eman Malik at No. 4 dispatched Swann and Konkel No. 5 took down Cooke by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores.
The match of the day came at No. 3, where Anischik lost the first set to Bergeron, 7-6 but rallied to take the second set, 7-5. The third set went to a super tiebreaker, which Anischik won, 10-7.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Mount Holyoke travels to Wheaton, while the Cougars host Babson.
