Babson Park, Mass.— Visiting Clark University ran into a game Babson College squad and the host Beavers dropped just one game in nine matches on its way to a 9-0 victory over the Cougars in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.
Babson, which has won seven consecutive matches going back to last season, is now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Clark drops to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Beavers wasted little time in taking control of the match with three wins in doubles. Senior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) and first-year Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) cruised to an 8-0 triumph at number one over Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.).
Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) and junior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) topped Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) and Fiorella Hernandez (Managua, Nicaragua) 8-0 at number two, and then Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) dropped Sarah Clay (Ossippee, N.H.) and Erica Issenberg (Shelburne, Vt.) 8-0 at number three.
In singles action Long was the only Cougar to win a game, falling to Freeman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1.
The Scarlet and White waste little time getting back into action. They face off against Worcester–area rival Becker on Thursday and then continue NEWMAC play with a Saturday home match against Wellesley.
