Boston, Mass. – Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) advanced to the singles championship to highlight the Clark University women's tennis team's performance at the 2015 Beacon Invitational hosted by UMass-Boston over the weekend.
Long opened up action in the quarterfinal round where she topped Wentworth's Caitlyn Briggs, 6-2, 6-3, before advancing to the semifinals. There, she got past Martina Daelli of UMass-Boston, 6-3, 7-5 to move on to the championship flight.
Wentworth's Caitlin Corcoran, who knocked off Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) in the quarters, won a first set tiebreaker with Long 7-6 (7), before claiming the individual crown with a second set 6-3 win.
For Mai, after losing to Corcoran, she moved to the consolation semifinals where she was bested by the Beacons' Nurcin Celebi, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, the Cougar tandem of Stephanie Gallant (Charlton, Mass.) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) fell to the eventual doubles champion duo of Emily Morgenbesser and Emily Rice, 8-1.
Clark's other doubles team of Emma Coppes (Muncy, Pa.) and Bichtroan Nguyen (Worcester, Mass.) were also topped 8-1, but by UMass-Boston's Kelsey Shea and Logan Smith.
Both doubles teams moved on to the consolation doubles where Gallant and Kravetz were edged out by Wentworth's Laura Boyd and Nicole Mooney, 8-5 and Coppes and Nguyen were blanked by the Leopards duo of Emily Jodoin and Nicole McColgan, 8-0.
Clark will continue it's the spring portion of its season with a road match at Gordon College on Wednesday, April 15 at 4:00 p.m.
