Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Babson College continued the impressive start to its 2015 campaign with an easy 9-0 win over host Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Beavers improve 5-0 on the season but more importantly are now 2-0 in league contests. For the Scarlet and White meanwhile, they have now dropped three straight matches following their season-opening victory over Rhode Island College.
Babson wasted little time taking control of the match when they breezed through doubles action as Dina Wieck (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) flew by Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) at No. 2 Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) and Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawai'i) toppled Stephanie Gallant (Charlton, Mass.) and Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) at No. 3 by identical 8-0 scores.
At No. 1 doubles, the Cougar tandem of Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) fought hard but eventually fell to Yamgur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) and Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.), 8-3.
Singles action was more of the same as Brandt bested Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) at No. 6, Wieck moved past Snyder at No. 3 and Foster dispatched of Kravetz at No. 4 all by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.
Horowitz fell at No. 5 to Kam, 6-4, 6-0, Long dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Akgul and Shuman was tripped up by Gianelos at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday, with the Cougars taking part in the Nichols College Invitational and the Beavers jumping right back into NEWMAC play with a road trip to Smith College.
