Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University won its second straight match, topping New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Emerson College 9-0 in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The win for the Scarlet and White evens their record at 5-5 and gives them their first conference win of the season. In addition, the five wins for the Cougars this season equals their win total from the past two seasons combined.
For Emerson, meanwhile, they fall to 0-4 on the year and all of their losses have come by 9-0 scores.
Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) combined for an 8-3 win over Jamie CoConis and Tiziana Vazquez at No. 1.
That was followed up by 8-0 wins at No. 2 by Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) at No. 3.
Things continued chugging along in Clark's favor in singles action as Long at No. 1 and Shuman at No. 2 each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) had an easy time at No. 5, taking down Lalin Tasa 6-0, 6-1 and Snyder made quick work of Gilesa Thomas at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0.
The match of the afternoon involved the Cougars' Kravetz and the Lions' Janie Yates. After Yates took the first set 4-6, Kravetz stormed back to take the final two, 6-0, 6-0.
Clark is back in action on Tuesday when they visit MIT at 4:00 p.m.
