Dudley, Mass. – Clark University won two of the three doubles matches on their way to their third straight win, a 7-2 triumph over Worcester-area rival Nichols College in non-league women's tennis action on Monday afternoon on Robinson Courts.
Four seasons removed from a winless campaign and just two away from a 2-15 season, Clark University guaranteed itself of an at least .500 finish in their first season under head coach Dan Herbst. The Cougars are now 9-8 overall in advance of Saturday's final match against UMass-Dartmouth.
The doubles tandems of Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) and Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) each won to give the Scarlet and White a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Clark continued its hot play in singles action where Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) bested Daniela Saldarriaga, 6-1, 6-2 at No.2 and Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) followed that up with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 over Morgan Hiersche.
Snyder sealed the match for the Cougars with her 7-5, 6-1 win over Michelle Keklik at No. 4, while Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) and Long also picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 1, respectively.
