PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Cougars (2-3) fell 9-0 on Thursday to Rhode Island College (13-0) on Thursday from the RIC Tennis Complex.
Playing against a team that has only lost three individual matches the entire season, the Cougars held their own, giving the Anchorwomen a serious scare at No. 1 doubles.
Doubles
•At No. 2 doubles RIC was able to defeat Clark's pairing of juniors Liliya Georgista and Nardin Sayoufi.
•No. 3 saw senior make her season debut for the Cougars alongside junior Maeve McEnroe. The Anchorwomen won 8-2.
•No. 1 doubles saw the scarlet and white duo of sophomore Hannah Russo and first-year Leilani Brown pushed to the brink before pushing back against RIC. The Cougars forced a tiebreak at 7-7, the first time all season RIC's No. 1 doubles team of Jenna Lisi and Victoria Vettori had faced a tiebreak. While the Cougars came up short in their tiebreak, losing 7-3, the match was a statement to competitors about the strength of Clark's team.
Singles
•Rhode Island College gathered the final two points needed to win with victories over Russo at No. 1 singles and first-year Emma Allen at No. 6.
•The margin was raised to 7-0 with RIC wins over Georgista at No. 3 and Brown at No. 2 singles.
•Sayoufi pushed the issue against undefeated No. 5 Sarah Gonick for RIC. While Clark lost the match 6-4, 6-2, Sayoufi found many moments of success for the Cougars.
•Finally, at No. 4 singles McEnroe also took on an undefeated opponent in Clara Siegmund. McEnroe kept the match competitive, coming up with a 6-3, 6-3 loss.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will wrap up their fall season with a home match against Salem State on Saturday. The match against the Vikings is set to begin at 1 p.m.
