WORCESTER, Mass.- Clark women's tennis (1-2) lost 7-2 to Bridgewater State (8-2) in a four-hour marathon match Thursday from Granger Field.
After securing a point at No. 1 doubles, the Cougars went to third sets in five of the six singles matches, coming away with a win at No. 6 singles.
Doubles
• Sophomore Hannah Russo and junior Andrea Osses Konig got the Cougars off to a hot start with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles.
•The Bears evened the score at No. 2 doubles winning 8-4. Playing for Clark was graduate student Ellie Garfield and junior Liliya Georgista.
•The Bears took No. 3 doubles 8-5, while Clark first-year Leilani Brown and junior Nardin Sayoufi fought hard in the contest.
Singles
•The Bears extended their lead at No. 2 singles with a win over Brown.
•At No. 1 singles Russo lost a high-powered affair. After dropping the first set 2-6, Russo fought back in a 6-1 second set, ultimately coming up just short 5-7 in the final set.
•The Bears clinched the match with a win over Garfield at No. 3 singles. Another three-setter, Garfield never gave up in the 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 showdown.
•Osses Konig fought tooth and nail for the scarlet and white, before being narrowly defeated 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
•Clark earned their second point at No. 6 singles when junior Maeve McEnroe earned a hard-fought win. After splitting the first two sets 7-5 and 5-7, McEnroe played every point to the fullest, coming up victorious 12-10 in a third set tiebreak.
•Finally, at No. 4 singles Georgista played a marathon match and showed heart and determination in the 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-6(4) setback.
What's Next
It's a quick turnaround for the Cougars, who hit the road to take on Simmons on Saturday. That match will begin at noontime.
