WORCESTER. Mass. – The Clark University softball team (6-20, 1-9 NEWMAC) welcomed Emerson (12-14, 3-9 NEWMAC) to the O'Brien Softball Field on Friday afternoon and split the series with the Lions by walking off in game one before dropping game two in extra innings.
Game One: Clark 5, Emerson 4
- First-year Megan Dube took the ball for Clark in game one and tossed a scoreless first inning before senior Rebecca Mauro and sophomore Magdalena Barthel both reached base in the bottom of the inning, but were left on base.
- Dube retired the side in order in the second before getting out of a jam in the top of the third as sophomore Emelie Spence threw out a runner trying to score as the game remained tied at 0-0.
- In the top of the fourth, Emerson scored two runs and in the bottom of the inning, Barthel and sophomore Erin Slavin each got base hits, but were left on base.
- After a scoreless fifth inning from Dube, Clark tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth as Spence belted an RBI double to left center and Mauro singled to right to bring home Spence.
- Sophomore Keira Langus came in relief to pitch in the sixth and allowed no runs and after the Lions scored two runs in the top of the seventh, Clark rallied with three runs as Mauro singled to drive in senior Samantha Crowley, Salvati doubled to score Mauro, and Slavin recorded the game-winner with a single to right field that scored first-year Jennifer Albano as the Cougars won 5-4.
Game Two: Emerson 6, Clark 3 (F/8)
- Sophomore Brooke Buzzeo allowed no runs in the top of the first and in the bottom of the inning, Spence, Mauro, and Barthel each reached base before the Lions got out of the jam.
- Buzzeo set down Emerson in order in the second before first-year Charlise Quigley and Crowley each singled in the bottom of the inning.
- Buzzeo allowed no runs in the third, fourth, and fifth inning before Clark took a 1-0 lead when Spencer singled to left field and drove in Quigley.
- After Emerson scored two runs in the top of the sixth, Salvati, junior Ashleigh Hughes, and graduate student Reilly Bronson each reached base in the bottom of the inning, but were left on base.
- The Cougars tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Salvati singled to left to score Albano.
- The Lions scored four runs in the top of eighth and in the bottom of the eighth the Cougars added a run as first-year Alexis Taudel singled up the middle to plate Slavin as Clark fell 6-3.

The scarlet and white will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a road NEWMAC doubleheader against Smith beginning at 12:00 p.m.
