Kissimmee, Fla. - The Clark University softball team (2-0) opened their 2025 with a pair of victories, topping Simmons (0–1) 3-2 and Johnson and Wales (0-2) 7-0 on Sunday afternoon from the Fortune Rd Athletic Complex.
Head Coach Katelyn Barton recorded the first two victories of her coaching career.
Game One: Clark 3, Simmons 2
- Junior Brooke Buzzeo took the bump for the Cougars in their first game of the season and allowed one run in the top of the first before junior Emelie Spence drove in a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the contest at 1-1.
- Buzzeo tossed a scoreless second inning and both junior Madison Dillon and first-year Gricelda Castro each reached base in the bottom half before the Sharks took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third.
- Graduate student Rebecca Mauro roped a double to center field to bring home Spencer in the bottom of the third to tie the game before Buzzeo tossed three more scoreless innings as the game remainder tied at 2-2 through the top of the sixth.
- Castro, sophomore Jennifer Albano, and Avery Dillon each reached base in the bottom of the sixth before Mauro drew an RBI walk to give the Cougars a 3-2 edge.
- Buzzeo slammed the door on the Sharks by retiring three of the first four batters in the seventh as Clark prevailed 3-2.
Game Two: Clark 7, JWU 0
- Mauro reached base with a walk in the top of the first in game two, but was left on base before sophomore Megan Dube got the ball for Clark and retired the Wildcats in order in the bottom of the inning.
- Dube and junior Felicia Salvati each drew walks in the top of the second before Clee got out of the jam and Dube tossed another scoreless inning in the second.
- Spence recorded the Cougars first hit of the game in the third inning and stole second, but was left in scoring position and Dube got out of a two-base jam in the bottom of the third.
- Castro singled to third base to drive home Albano in the top of the fourth and Madison Dillon hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give Clark a 2-0 edge.
- After another scoreless inning from Dube, Mauro, junior Ella Traynor, Salvati, and sophomore Charlise Quigley all recorded RBI's to push the Cougars advantage to 6-0 after five innings of play.
- In the top of the seventh, junior Erin Slavin singled to right field to drive in Traynor and in the bottom of the seventh Dube closed out the game as Clark prevailed 7-0.

The Cougars will return to the field tomorrow when they take on Neumann and Chatham at 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. from the Fortune Road Complex.
