Avery Dillon Drives in Game-Winning Run in Game One as Softball Splits with Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (12-13, 3-6 NEWMAC) traveled to Emerson (15-9, 7-3 NEWMAC) for a conference doubleheader and took game one before falling in game two on Friday afternoon from Rotch Field.

Game One: Clark 3, Emerson 2
  • First-year Avery Dillon and sophomore Megan Dube each reached base in the top of the first before the Lions got out of the jam.
  • Sophomore Megan Dube retired the side in order in the first before Emerson plated a run in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
  • First-year Avery Della Piana drove in junior Emelie Spence with one out in the top of the third with a ball hit to short to tie the game at 1-1.
  • After a scoreless inning from Dube, sophomore Charlise Quigley and junior Madison Dillon reached the corners before junior Felicia Salvati converted a sacrifice bunt to bring home Quigley to push the lead to 2-1.
  • Dube threw two more scoreless innings before Emerson tied the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth and in the top of the seventh, Spence tripled to left field and was brought home by an RBI single from Avery Dillon to give Clark a 3-2 edge.
  • Dube closed the door on the Lions with a 1-2-3 ninth as the Cougars took game one 3-2.
Game Two: Emerson 8, Clark 0 (F/5)
  • Emerson scored three runs in the bottom of the first in game two before junior Brooke Buzzeo set down six of the next seven batters she faced.
  • The Lions added five runs in the fourth and in the top of the fifth, Dube tallied Clark's first hit of the game with a double, but was left on base as Emerson won 8-0.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field tomorrow afternoon when they compete in a doubleheader against Smith beginning at 12:00 p.m.
