Baseball Tallies 15-11 Victory Over NEC

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (14-7) hosted a midweek game against NEC (5-13) and saw the offense explode for 15 runs as the scarlet and white recorded a 15-11 victory over the Pilgrims on Wednesday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • First-year Danny Goodman retired the side in order in the first and second inning before the Pilgrims struck first in the top of the third off a wild pitch.
  • In the bottom of the third, Clark's offense exploded for eight runs as senior Carter Doran hit a two-RBI triple, graduate student Billy Sullivan drove in a run, junior Michael Soares homered to left, junior Dom Mariani stole home, senior Tyler Jones and sophomore Chas Caron also drove in runs as the Cougars led 8-1.
  • After two runs from NEC in the top of the fourth and three in the fifth, Caron, Doran, and Sullivan all recorded RBI's to help extend the lead back to 11-6 in the fifth.
  • After a scoreless sixth, Clark plated four more runs in the seventh as Sullivan drove in a run, Caron scored on a wild pitch, and junior Nicolo Mainardi brought home a pair of runs to extend the edge to 15-7.
  • The Pilgrims plated four runs over the final two innings of play as the Cougars came away with a 15-11 victory.
Inside the Stats
  • Sullivan tallied four hits, drove in three runs, stole three bases, and scored twice.
  • Doran also recorded three RBI's, two hits, and two runs scored.
  • Soares belted a two-run homer and Mainardi also registered two RBI's.
  • Caron reached base three times, scored three runs, and drove one in.
  • Jones scored two runs, stole a base, and tallied an RBI.
  • Goodman tossed 3.0 innings, struck out three batters and only allowed one run.
  • Donahue picked up the win with a scoreless fifth inning.
  • Schmautz recorded 2.0 innings pitched and only allowed one run.
What's Next
Clark will return to Granger for a home NEWMAC doubleheader against Babson on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
