Softball Takes Game One, Drops Game Two at Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (10-7) traveled across town for a non-conference doubleheader at Worcester State (5-11) and took game one 4-2 before falling 4-2 in game two on Tuesday afternoon from Ralph Raymond Field.  

Game One: Clark 4, Worcester State 2
  • Senior Brooke Buzzeo pitched a 1-2-3 first and a scoreless top of the second before Clark plated four runs in the bottom half as sophomore Gwen Castro, senior Emelie Spence, and junior Charlise Quigley all tallied RBI's to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Merry Griffin doubled to right in the third, but was left on base before Buzzeo tossed a scoreless fourth and fifth.
  • Quigley singled in the fifth and junior Alexis Taudel doubled to left in the sixth, but were both left on base and Buzzeo earned the win in the seventh with a 4-2 victory.
Game Two: Worcester State 4, Clark 2
  • Junior Megan Dube tossed a scoreless first and second before senior Erin Slavin recorded Clark's first hit of the game in the second, but was left on base.
  • Worcester State scored one run in the third and in the bottom of the third, Spence and junior Eleanor Hills scored off a ball hit by Dube as they took a 2-1 lead.
  • The Lancers scored two runs in the fourth and in the bottom half, senior Felicia Salvati drew a walk and eventually reached third, but Worcester State got out of the inning.
  • Quigley and Salvati each reached base in the fifth and sixth, but were left on heading into the seventh and scored no runs as they fell 4-2.
What's Next
The scarlet and white are slated to host their first NEWMAC games of the spring when they welcome Springfield to O'Brien for a pair of contests beginning at 3:00 p.m.
