Baseball Bested by MIT Under the Lights

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (16-11, 3-5 NEWMAC) closed out their season series against MIT (11-13, 8-2 NEWMAC) and fell 9-1 to the Engineers in eight innings due to the game being called in the eighth on Tuesday night from Stein Field.

How it Happened
  • Clark jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as sophomore Cole Camara singled through the right side to bring home fellow sophomore Bennett Hewett, who walked and reached third before being driven home by Camara.
  • Junior Jacob Kline tossed a 1-2-3 first and in the top of the second, sophomore Myles Fournier singled before being left on base.
  • MIT plated four runs in the bottom of the second before Hewett and Camara each reached base in the top of the third, but were left on base.
  • First-year Tyler Hansen pitched a scoreless third and in the fourth, MIT added another run before Hewett tripled to center in the top of the fifth for his second hit of the night.
  • After another scoreless inning from Hansen, senior Brayden Hollinrake registered his first hit of the game in the sixth before MIT added another run in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Senior Alfonso Jalil and junior Michael Salzillo each reached base in the seventh, with Jalil reached third off a fly ball hit by senior Dom Mariani, but the Engineers got out of the jam.
  • Hollinrake doubled to right center in the top of the eighth before the game was called due to weather conditions.
Inside the Stats
  • Hewett recorded a pair of hits (double, triple), drew a walk, and scored a run.
  • Camara drove in the Clark run, stole a base, and drew a walk.
  • Fournier and Jalil also registered hits.
  • Hansen pitched 3.1 innings, struck out three batters, and only allowed one run.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will host their senior day game when they welcome WPI across town for a NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. from Granger Field. Clark's nine seniors that will be honored are Jake Faulkenham, Jake O'Donnell, Matthew Donahue, Alfonso Jalil, Nicolo Mainardi, Brayden Hollinrake, Andrew Reder, Michael Soares, and Dom Mariani.
