Baseball Records Convincing 13-3 Victory Over WNE

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (19-12) competed in their second game in two days when they welcomed WNE (15-18) to Granger and rattled off 14 hits as they recorded a 13-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Robby Roth got out of a first and third jam in the top of the first before senior Michael Soares and sophomore Myles Fournier each hit two-run homers that plated senior Dom Mariani and sophomore Cole Camara to take a 4-0 lead into the second.
  • After another scoreless inning from Roth, junior Michael Salzillo belted a two-run homer to left that brought home junior Joseph Winakor to give the Cougars a 6-0 advantage.
  • Junior Brendan Bruun entered the game in the third and allowed no runs before Salzillo hit his second homer of the game to left field as Clark led 7-0.
  • Bruun tossed a scoreless fourth before the Bears plated a pair of runs in the fifth and in the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars added three more runs as sophomore Bennett Hewett and Camara each registered RBI's to push their advantage to 10-2.
  • The Golden Bears added another run in the seventh and in the bottom half, Winakor drove in Fournier as the Cougars took an 11-3 lead into the eighth.
  • First-year Luke Costello tossed a 1-2-3 eighth before Clark scored the final two runs of the game as sophomore Nate Ullman and senior Alfonso Jalil each tallied RBI's to win 13-3.

  • Salzillo belted a pair of homers, drove in three, and scored two.
  • Soares, Camara, and Fournier each tallied two hits and two RBI's, with Soares and Fournier each hitting homers.
  • Hewett, Mariani, Ullman, Jalil, and Winakor also registered hits.
  • Roth, junior Chas Caron, and Costello each tossed scoreless innings.

The scarlet and white will return to the field tomorrow when they close out non-conference play with a contest against Nichols beginning at 3:30 p.m.
