NEWPORT, RI – The Clark University softball team (14-15, 3-9 NEWMAC) traveled to Newport for a pair of NEWMAC games against Salve Regina (3-27, 0-14 NEWMAC) and took both games from the Seahawks, with a 9-6 win in game one and 4-1 victory in game two on Wednesday afternoon from Toppa Field.
Game One: Clark 9, Salve Regina 6
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as senior Felicia Salvati hit a sacrifice fly that plated fellow senior Emelie Spence before the Seahawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
- Sophomore Avery Dillon doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but was left on base before Salve Regina plated another run in the second to take a 3-1 advantage.
- Clark rallied to take the lead in the third as senior Erin Slavin scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Merry Griffin registered a two-RBI single through the right side as they took a 4-3 lead.
- The Seahawks added two runs in the third before Clark's offense erupted for four runs as junior Megan Dube, Griffin, and sophomore Avery Della Piana each recorded RBI's to give the Cougars an 8-5 advantage.
- Senior Brooke Buzzeo tossed a scoreless fourth and in the fifth Salve played another run to pull back within two.
- Junior Jennifer Albano scored off a sacrifice fly from Della Piana to extend Clark's lead to 9-6 before Buzzeo pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to help the Cougars earn the victory.
Game Two: Clark 4, Salve Regina 1
- The Seahawks took an early 1-0 lead in game two off an RBI single from Emma Plourde and after a scoreless second from Dube, junior Alexis Taudel singled and was thrown out at second in the third inning.
- Dube tossed another scoreless inning in the third and Spence, Dube, and Griffin each reached base in the fourth, but again the Seahawks got out of the inning.
- Dube kept Salve off the board in the fourth, fifth, and sixth before sophomore Gricelda Castro, Spence, and Slavin each registered RBI's to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh.
- Dube set down the Seahawks in order in the seventh to help Clark earn the series sweep.

The Cougars will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they welcome Emerson to O'Brien for a NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
