No. 6 Baseball's Historic Season Comes to an End With Loss to No. 3 Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The No. 6 Clark University baseball team (21-17) traveled to No. 3 Babson (23-15) in Game One of the NEWMAC Tournament and fell 14-6 on Tuesday afternoon from Govoni Field.

How it Happened
  • The Beavers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with RBI's coming from Zander Teator and Gabe Cushner before sophomore Robby Roth tossed a scoreless second inning.
  • Sophomore Myles Fournier recorded Clark's first hit of the game in the top of the third and in the bottom half, Teator belted a two-run homer down the right field line to extend their lead to 4-0.
  • Senior Dom Mariani cut into the deficit in the fourth with a homer to left field and after another Babson run in the bottom of the inning, the Cougars tied the game at 5-5 as Fournier hit a three-run homer to left field and Mariani registered an RBI single that plated sophomore Bennett Hewett.
  • Babson answered with three runs in both the fifth and four in the sixth before junior Chas Caron singled in the seventh, but was left on base.
  • The Beavers scored two more runs in the seventh before junior Brendan Bruun tossed a scoreless eighth and in the ninth, Mariani recorded an RBI single that brought home senior Jake O'Donnell as Babson advanced with a 14-6 victory.

  • Senior Michael Soares ends his career with a program-leading 13 homer single season record and 114 total bases, while tallying 19 career homers, 132 hits, and 94 RBI's.

  • Senior Nicolo Mainardi ends his career with 18 hits, 16 RBI's, and seven doubles.

  • Senior Jake O'Donnell ends his career with five career hits and six RBI's.
  • Senior Andrew Reder ends his career with seven appearances and tossed scoreless outings against Cornell College and WPI.
